Attending Swim Meets
Bags should be packed the night before. You will need:-
- Swimsuits/trunks - enough to last the day - you don't want to sit in wet swimsuits between races.
- Club swimming caps - to be worn by all swimmers - available from the Club desk on a Friday night.
- Club polo shirt.
- Goggles - two pairs if possible.
- Towels - remember to take plenty as they get wet quickly.
- Food - lunch, if required, and small snacks e.g. dried fruit, rice cakes, bananas.
- Drinks - diluted drinks or water, not fizzy drinks. Bring plenty - poolsides are very hot places.
- Shorts or tracksuit bottoms to wear on the poolside.
- Pool shoes or spare clean trainers to wear on the poolside.
- Something to keep you entertained between events, e.g. books, personal stereos, etc. - but remember you will be responsible for looking after your valuables.
When you arrive at the meet, which should be at least 15 minutes prior to the warm-up, please ensure you notify your coach that you are there. Coaches need to post withdrawals during the warm-up period - if you are not there (or the coach is not aware that you are there) you may be withdrawn and so will be unable to swim.
If you are running late for any reason, telephone your coach or the pool as soon as possible. If you are ill or unable to attend on the day, it is imperative that you notify the coach to enable them to withdraw you from the event on time, which will allow reserve swimmers to get a swim and save the Club from being fined. You will, however, still be liable for entry fees as we are unable to get these refunded. If you require a lift to or from an event, please speak to your coach/parent rep who may be able to arrange assistance.
Parents should ensure that swimmers arrive on time and are encouraged to stay and give enthusiastic support to their child and Club.
At the end of the meet, make sure you take all your belongings home with you. Having your name on all of your kit means it is more likely to be returned to you if it gets lost. |
